This plentiful mollusc with its conical hat like shell holds firmly upon the tidal sandstone. Impervious to children’s prying curiosity, Limpets exhibit a strength that bely their size. The expression “Cling like a Limpet” is coined from their muscular foot which clamps to the rock preventing the mollusc from drying out and keeping it safe from most predators. Super strength is also found in Limpet teeth which are made from a mineral-protein composite which is the strongest natural biological material known.
